Your Child Is Talented PDF Print
Contributed by Francis Dower
Students are different. Some are enjoying their studies and are making considerable progress in their studies. Others take their academic career as a burden and hardly manage to scrap through the exams. Why? The same teachers give lectures to them, they read the same textbooks, are given virtually the same assignments. But still there is a difference… It is probably the matter of innate inclination and capabilities. Then, it turns out that we are predestined to be either successful or not from the moment we are born. And we cannot change it. Well, that is not completely true.

Recently the scientists ascertained that the harmful influence of heredity had been considerably exaggerated: its effect on mental abilities is much less than that of the educating environment. In other words, with a correct approach you can make a genius of any child. Though there are some restrictions, of course. The basis of the future talent should be formed before the child is three. At this age the brain cells are most capable of developing new connections (by 3 years old 90 % of the brain structure has been already formed). Start stimulating this process from antenatal period. The main task of early education is to develop fundamental psychological functions- memory, attention, imagination, logical thinking. The period when the child is under three is very important: alongside the intellectual skills, most of the personal traits (such as self – discipline, sincerity, diligence, etc) are developed at that time. Many modern psychological tests for one-year-old include social aspects. Psychologists claim that talent formation stops at 13 years old. By that time parents and teachers should do a titanic work. Without pushing and imposing their own opinions on to the children they should motivate their constant and free development. Among gifted children there is a group of highly/ super gifted young people. We call them wunderkinds. We are amazed at their supernatural abilities: making world significant inventions at an early age, composing complicated musical concertos, writing a deep
self reflective essay in five minutes. However, wunderkind’s talent is something ephemeral. It flashes like a comet and may fade away in no time. Maybe, becoming a student he will prefer to order a custom research paper than to use his talent.

As you see, talent and giftedness are delicate matters. If not timely detected and persistently developed they expire. That is why parents should detect their kid’s talent at the right time. You can find a lot of useful information on giftedness detection at
