Today (June 5) is the ‘World Environment Day’. Let me do a mental check about the happenings around us, which affect our environment directly. It would be a mistake to think that nature is all that is ‘the environment’ for us. The real environment is what we see, read, experience and think about all around us. I am sure the lack of trees, contamination of air and water is not affecting us so much, as much as the way the things are happening with people all around; keeping mainly India in perspective.
We saw recently the killing of Pramod Mahajan by his own younger brother Pravin. A minor reason that Pravin gave for shooting was that ‘Pramod always spoke to him badly.’ Another reason that Pravin mentioned was believed that in spite of the 2000 Crore that Pramod was worth, he did not try to bail him out of much smaller financial mess. But most appropriate and good enough reason could be the angle of Pramod having something to do with Pravin’s wife. Though I have not seen this angle covered by any newspapers, but some blogs do mention it.
The tragedy of the family got a equal sequel with Rahul Mahajan’s Delhi episode. Initially both print and electronic media reported ‘negative’ about the presence of drug in Rahul’s body. But now the newer versions are out. In fact today they say that all the boys present have endorsed that Rahul did snort the ‘white powder’ along with Moitra. Even the medical reports from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital now say that there is a presence of cocaine along with sedatives and cannabinoids and the liquor in his urine sample.
There may be some inferences in Rahuls’s disclosure to the police. In such cases they have to find a version that hurts various concerned parties, the least. Weight of everybody party involved will be added. Some will carry the weight figure in ‘negative’ and others in ‘positive’. So the sum of all this must not go strongly against anyone. All of them are linked to the rest of them with an invisible thread. But in spite of this usual stuff, the times must have really changed so very drastically that today in the same scene, we find a bottle of champagne (not to mention the ‘white powder’) along side the urn of a dead father’s ashes.
Some other running stories that have been affecting the environment are,
Higher ‘Quota for OBC’ – courtesy HRD minister Mr. Arjun Singh
Patients wailing in the hospitals - courtesy doctors who decided to belt slogan with the bright students
Doctors bandaging each other – courtesy swinging cop sticks
Burqa clad women shouting slogans – courtesy Kashmir sex scandal
Tourists shot dead in Kashmir – courtesy Kashmir terrorists
Just a thought: according to me there is no link between consumption of tobacco and cancer. In Mumbai alone tobacco consumption must be a few tons/day. The proof lies in the disgusting coloring of the streets by an enormous amount of slimy spit. But the question is where are the proportionate numbers of people suffering from related kind of cancer? No amount of education or warnings can stop smokers or tobacco eaters except for the reality changing the tobacco taste in the mouth.
Good wishes to all on the ‘World Environment Day’.
