Kashmir Earthquake PDF Print
Contributed by Arunoday Sharma
A massive earthquake has rocked Kashmir of both India and Pakistan. POK has suffered extreme losses in terms of human lives. I don’t know what kind of economic damage must have taken place in that remote area for Pakistan as a country. I mean most likely there are no large dams, expensive power station or even massive agricultural turn over. Of course poor farmers and other small workers did loose everything that they had. In some villages every house has been floored. As per common knowledge POK is not given much importance in Pakistan. No economic developments, no security – seems like ‘no bother’ area. Even media is not welcome there to show what’s cooking or if anyone can smell aroma of cooking at all.

As per data on Indian print media, nearly 40000 lives have been lost on the other side, which is huge thinking the quake struck only 4 days ago, in the morning. On Indian side quake-casualties are around 1000 and rising. But yesterday our terrorists struck and shot dead 10-12 people in Indian Kashmir. I must say earthquake was a good occasion for them to convert it into an opportunity with security forces looking towards the desperate men, crying women and children. Who would imagine that at such trying times too there are some people who also have their agenda to follow. I mean the world cannot stop turning if a quake has hit your locality.

I must say terrorists planned well and executed it easily. I wonder if there are some MBAs among them, because of the way a setback was converted into an opportunity, was amazing. Terrorists found people were already dying and crying due the quake. So a few deaths due to their bullets will not matter to those families. Any way, how can anyone differentiate the reason of crying – this or that! More over Kashmir is used to frequent guns and bullets but not to earthquakes. It was a business plan followed ruthlessly. I guess ‘
Art of War’ by Sun Tzu does not have any practical lessons like this one.

Art of war has changed so much that it is not possible to recognize the art of it/in it. To take you back in time, soon after 9/11, I was talking to a friend of mine. We reached a doubtless conclusion that this was an operation, which would get highest award for the most meticulously planned venture ever. It had maintained the secrecy during years of planning, efficient, determination of ultimate sacrifice, with hardly any cost to executor; while killing nearly 3000 and costing billions to attacked country. I mean just imagine American planes, American fuel, American people, and American targets of highest value including the Pentagon. All remote controlled. It must have been such a slap to US, who are busy all the time saving the world in their
movies. Just imagine! At this point I wonder if management-schools, business houses and business strategists or even military has picked a leaf out of this amazing incident!
